Rock Climber Ephraim Cook Obituary And Death Cause
On 24 May 2023, rock climber Ephraim Cook was climbing Outside Corner in Big Cottonwood Canyon when he fell and died from an estimated 100 feet height.
The Murray man was dead when the Unified Police officers reached the scene in response to a report at around 12:22 pm. Outer Corner is one of the most popular rock formations in Big Cottonwood Canyon.
The Unified Police officers expressed their sadness over the death of Ephraim Cook through a statement. “Our deepest condolences to Ephraim Cook’s family and friends.” read the statement from Unified Police, the lead responding agency.
According to Sgt. Melody Cutler of the Unified Police Department said they received a call at around 12:22 pm on Wednesday.
Cook’s girlfriend reportedly yelled for help, revealed Cutler. Moreover, UPD, Salt Lake County Search and Rescue personnel, and a Utah Department of Public Safety helicopter were among the teams that responded to the report.
“When we got there, Cook was already dead,” said Sgt. Cutler. “He had the necessary safety gear on him.” The reason behind Cook’s fall remains a mystery.
The incident occurred 12 days after two climbers fell in a different area of Big Cottonwood Canyon, killing one and seriously injuring the other.
Ephraim Cook Family: He Lived Doing What He Loved
Ephraim Cook’s family is mourning his untimely death. The young man’s family described him as a loving, adventurous, and full-of-life person.
The rock climber’s twin brother, Herber Cook, said, “He’d say things like, ‘Climbing is my life, skiing is my life, football is my life. But music was also his life at the time.”
Herber said Ephraim lived doing what he loved. Moreover, Ephraim Cook’s father said he had been enjoying a beautiful day climbing rock with his girlfriend of around two years, Sarah Radulic.
While describing his passion for tricky and challenging climbs, Ephraim’s sister, Whiteley Goddard, revealed he enjoyed rock climbing in Big Cottonwood Canyon and along the Wasatch Front.
Gooddard said that Cook introduced him to climbing. The loving sister said she grew up trying to be like Ephraim in that way.
Ephraim Cook Played Football In High School
Ephraim Cook graduated from Murray High School in 2016. During his days at the institution, Cook was involved in its football team and captained his senior year. The young man reportedly had a great love for his teammates.
The late rock climber’s mother, Sarah Cook, shared an incident where he dislocated his elbow while attempting to go for a touchdown.
According to Sarah, Cook waited to go to the hospital until the game ended because he didn’t want his teammates. The grieving mother also said her son always tried to help someone in need.
Sarah further added, “You just felt loved by him and adored him when you were in his presence. He had a charisma that was dripping off him.”
